VI. 书面表达 (共25分)

Recently, a survey on homework preference has been conducted among senior three students.

The results are as follows: more than half of the students, about 54%, usually put their math homework in the first place while only 7% would rank Chinese as the most important. Meanwhile, English is regarded as most significant by 18% of the participants, and the other subjects attract the attention of 21% of the students.

Undoubtedly, the results reflect the position of each subject in Gaokao. As one of the fundamental subjects, math always comes first in all subjects. Besides, some students hold the view that math is most interesting and challenging, and it seems easier for us to have a senseexists of achievement in it. By contrast, some students, especially boys, find it hard to obtain immediate results when doing Chinese and English homework.

However, each subject has its unique charm and they are of the same value. Therefore, I think we should take every subject seriously and improve our studies in a balanced way.(152)

录音原文

Text 1

M: Do you like this tie? I got it on sale from a second-hand store.

W: Hmm. It looks a little dirty. And it’s got a hole right here. (1)

Text 2

W: Do you have change for a dollar?

M: Yeah. What kind of change do you want? (2)

W: I don’t care what kind of change it is, as long as the parking machine takes it.

Text 3

W: Could you pass the salt, please? Oh, and I’ll take some more bread and butter when you’re done with it.

M: Here you are. This place is fantastic, isn’t it? The food is great, and the service is just perfect. I’m going to order some more red wine. (3)

Text 4

W: Can you help me send a fax to my friend in Canada?

M: A fax? Nobody uses fax machines anymore. Why don’t you send your friend an email instead?

W: She doesn’t have a computer. I don’t think she even has a cell phone! (4)

Text 5

M: What do you mean you don’t have a reservation under that name? I called two weeks ago!

W: I’m sorry, sir. Perhaps the person you spoke to didn’t write it down. The best I can do is a seat at the bar in 20 minutes. (5)

Text 6

W: I’m starving! What is there to eat in the fridge?

M: Hmm, not much. All we have is some noodles from last night. (6)

of eating noodles. I want something a little more exciting for a change! Let’s go out for Indian food! (7)

M: I dunno…my stomach can’t handle spicy food. Remember last time? We had that spicy fish at that Thai restaurant with your parents. I had to call in sick the next day!

W: Well, not every Indian dish is spicy, you know. And there are a lot of good vegetarian dishes at Indian restaurants. (7) You have been saying that you want to eat less meat.

M: All right. I’m willing to give it a chance. (7)

M: Hey, Shirley! Are you busy this afternoon?

W: Well, Brad…I need to…uh…go to the bank today, and... (8)

M: Perfect! I need to go there, too! Why don’t we go together?

W: The thing is, Brad…I actually have to visit my friend who is sick afterwards, so…

M: Oh, no problem! I can make her some chicken soup! My mother taught me how to make it.

W: Listen, Brad…my sick friend is actually a guy. I don’t think he’d like it too much if I brought you over to his house. (9) Do you understand what I mean?

M: Totally… I’ll just wait in the car while you bring him the soup, and then we can go to the movies!

W: Look, Brad. I’m just not interested in going out with you, okay? I’m already seeing someone!

M: OK, I understand. But you could have just said that in the first place…

Text 8

W: Hello. Is this the registration office?

M: Yes. This is Jim speaking. How can I help you?

W: Well, I have a problem here. I have been in Chemistry 302B for a month. And today, Prof. Anderson told me I wasn’t on his most recent class list. (10) I thought I was registered in his class, so this really came as a surprise. (11)

M: Well, why don’t you give me your student ID, and I’ll just check to see if you are officially registered? (12)

W: 37754.

M: Just a minute. And you are Kelly Alton, right?

W: Yes, that’s me.

M: Kelly, the computer shows that you are registered in Chemistry 302A. That’s Dr. Bolton’s class. Perhaps you have mixed up the two.

Text 9

W: Excuse me, are you going to buy that book?

M: Well, I need it for a class, but it’s awfully expensive.

W: Oh. We must be in the same class. (13) Introduction to British Literature?

M: Yes, that’s the one. Were you there yesterday for the first class? (13)

W: I sure was. (13) Professor Roberts really seems to know his subject.

M: Yes. I took his Shakespeare course last semester, and it was very good. He likes listening to his students.

W: That’s a relief. I’m a biology major, and I was a little uncertain about taking an English course. (14)

M: I’m an English major, and this is a required course for me. But now, I’m in trouble because I’m not sure whether I can afford this book. (15)

W: Hey, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we split the cost

and share the book? (16)

M: Sounds great. (16) Do you live on campus?

W: Yeah. I live on the 10th floor of Butler Hall.

M: Perfect. I live on the 3rd floor of Butler. We should have no trouble sharing the book. I can bring it up to your room right after I wrap up the first assignment.

W: It’s a deal.

Text 10

A young man was walking in the forest near his village when he smelled smoke. He went in the direction of the smoke and saw a fire that was out of control. It looked like it had been started by a campfire. (17) Many trees had already been burned. The young man looked at the black ground and saw a bright green snake. (18) It was trapped under a large brown tree that had fallen down. The young man knew that the snake was dangerous. He lifted up the fallen tree and was able to set the snake free. He put it into a bag and ran back to his village.

While the men in the village went to put out the fire, the young man showed his mother the beautiful snake and begged her to let him keep it. He fed the snake big, fat mice, and he gave it a huge area in his yard to live in. (19) The snake lived a very comfortable life. The young man liked to invite his friends over to take turns feeding it. Everyone liked the snake, even the young man’s mother. One day, the young man tried to pick up the snake, and it bit him on the arm. (20) As the young man lay on the ground in pain, he asked the snake why it had bitten him. The snake replied, “You always knew I was a snake!”
